Author Mariah De La Croix’s new book, Restless in Peace: A Psychic Mortician’s Encounters With Those Who Refuse To Rest is a fast and furious heart-pounding read that left this avid ghost hunter psychic/medium shaking with morbid fascination. In chapter one, The Opening of the Casket, she grabs the reader’s full attention by explaining how the spirits in the funeral homes that she worked in made her laugh, comforted her, kept her from harm and ultimately let her know when it was time to give up the profession she chose in order to maintain her own health.

This quote came to mind when I started reading this true story of a woman who drowned in a kayaking accident when her boat became wedged in the rocks under a waterfall and her body was pinned inside the boat. Dr. Neal’s body was eventually freed from the boat and her spirit watched from above as the rescue team tried to revive her.

In the Deep Dark Woods made me cry happy tears to see all the snow-people dance and prance in their home in the snowy woods. The colors were very bright on each page just like a rainbow. The snow-people wore many colored hats and scarves that reminded me of my kindergarten teacher, who wears brightly colored things with her winter outfits.
